I’m sure some people know this, but for those who don’t, you can infer an answer for virtually any behavior-related question by understanding its underlying function as a survival technique.
Survival means: A) ensuring you continue to live as a genetically-coded individual for as long as possible by procuring food, shelter, happiness, etc. for yourself, and B) ensuring you replicate whatever information in your genetic coding to an offspring through birth, artificial insemination, etc. Survival is ensuring that odds favor little to no change happening to you and any extensions of you, such as your environment.
Here are some “philosophical” questions about Everything-Different-Worries-Me types and I-Can-Find-Anything-Sexual types that have already been answered but oblivious people keep asking them anyway:
Why are there racists?
Because the fewer different types there are in your environment, the easier it will be for your type to be the dominant one and avoid competition. Race is a significant favorite among Everything-Different-Worries-Me types because it requires very little resources of identifying it (you can see what a white guy looks like, hear what an Arab sounds like, etc.) Your type being the dominant one means odds of you continuing and mating are higher, which means odds of reproducing yourself are higher, which means odds of your genetic code’s survival are higher.
Why are there misogynists and men who don’t want to see women empowered?
Because men, as the sperm carriers/throwers, prefer sex to be as easily attainable as possible (so they would conserve as much of their resources as possible). So a man automatically calculates that if he is in control, odds favor higher chances of him mating (not waiting for women’s input saves his time and resources), which means odds of reproducing himself are higher, which means odds of his genetic code’s survival are higher.
Why are there homophobes and people who find same-gender sex revolting?
Because it diminishes the odds of heterosexuals procreating (fewer possible mates for them), so hating/stopping/killing/diminishing homosexuals in any way would increase the odds of having more heterosexuals in their environment, which means odds of heterosexuals mating would be higher, which means odds of heterosexuals reproducing would be higher, which means odds of their genetic code’s survival are higher.
Why are there so many soldiers and other forms of terrorists who are willing to kill and die for their cause?
Because ensuring as little change as possible happens to their environment gives the best odds of as little change as possible happening to their genetic coding, so there are a lot willing to oblige. Soldiers in a war might act like one big team but they’re all individuals trying to preserve their environment’s current conditions against the most pressing changes to them as a group now (e.g. invasions that may carry theft, rape, murder) so that they would survive them as competing individuals later (e.g. peace that may carry getting the best job, getting the best wife, living the longest). Stopping a massively-altering event like a war means eventual odds of each individuals reproducing later on would be higher, which means odds of each individual’s genetic code’s survival would be higher.
Why is there homosexuality, pedophilia, bestiality, incest, necrophilia and other off-shoot mating choices?
Because the body’s natural instinct command (throw sperm as far out as possible) clashes with the brain’s natural instinct command (have sex for relief, conserve resources somehow) which results in creating a new off-shoot mate based on accessible ingredients in the individual’s environment and requiring as little investment of resources as possible (men make things easier for me than women, children are unlikely to resist, animals are close by, family member is willing, etc.) Even though not all off-shoot mates would produce an offspring, the mating will still take place as it’s enough for the brain to derive pleasure from the process to consider it a “job well done” because your body is designed to shoot sperm blindly first, and worry about impregnation odds later. That’s why we can successfully masturbate or fuck a hole in the wall.
Why are there “weird” fetishes and off-shoot attractions?
Because stimulus is needed to get to mating, and if the individual’s brain starts rejecting conventional attractions, it maneuvers and creates an off-shoot attraction based on ingredients available within the individual’s current environment. For example, you’ll never find a desert dweller, never been exposed to modern cities, who has a secret sexual fetish for robots. It has to be based on ingredients from within his current environment.
Why is sex such a demanding urge?
Because the expected result of sex (reproduction) is the reason you exist from a biological perspective, and there’s no fucking around about it (pun in your face). And sex is not the most demanding urge. Hunger takes precedence over sex, because first you need the energy to procreate and because you, having already existed, have much higher odds of keeping your genetic code in the environment than having babies that will carry your code for you, which because they don’t exist yet, have lower odds. This is why in times of famine, you worry about saving yourself first then, in times of comfort, you shift your focus on having kids.
Why does it never feel great after masturbating?
Because you just had the honor of experiencing the investment of resources into a guaranteed result of 0% reproduction. Your brain will make you hate this (after you finish doing it) until you start throwing your sperm at something that has at least a chance of reproduction (cow?).
Why are some people scared by anything remotely different than what they are and how they live?
Because that carries a mathematical chance that their genetic coding will be affected in some way, whether by 0.1% (there might be alien life on another planet, might come to Earth, might impact availability of mates or present more competition, etc.) or 99.9% (someone definitely just broke into our house and we don’t know what he will do, he could kill, he could rape and impregnate, he could rob and leave us moneyless and make it harder to survive and find mates, etc.), and the automatic calculation of those odds will cause them concern nonetheless.
Are you insane?
Tomaytoe, tomaato. You’ll find that the main common ingredient in individuals who want to preserve their environment’s current conditions is that they’re not utilizing their brains in the decision-making process as much as they’re going with “gut instinct”. This is where all the stuff like taboo, traditions, religions, codes of honor, family values, save the planet, our children are not safe, etc. comes from. They’re just survival techniques to create higher odds of genetic procreation.
And yes, I could be wrong about 99% of all of this but one thing that’s impossible to be wrong about is that your whole existence and all the decisions you end up taking and all the behavior traits you end up exhibiting, from why you chose to sleep early last night to why you chose that brand of coffee to have first thing next morning, can be reduced to one linear urge for your survival.
A single reading of Richard Dawkins’ The Selfish Gene, first published in 1976, should explain enough and leave you to infer the rest, but I guess some people still need me to explain it to them in 2016.
